We're back!

We're back!  Thanks again to everyone who made this trip possible.  We left indelible footprints in the Alps and in our hearts.  Let's do it again!

Silke Schlitterman

Our fearless guide for our adventure was Silke, a native of Berlin and pal to Frau Alexander.  We'd never make it without her expert guidance and attention to detail.  Danke Schoen! 

We'd also like to thank the parents and grandparents who traveled with us and provided an extra set of eyes and ears.  Danke Schoen!

On the Road Again

I like dawn.  We got to see it today as our alert crew made its way to the airport in Frankfurt for our trip home.  Tschuss! 

Damen and Herren

So for those who speak German, the signs Damen and Herren are pretty clear, especially in the vicinity of a WC.  One unnamed member of our group was a bit confused.  Don't males use the WC marked for Da Men, and females visit Her-ren?  German is so confusing. 

Please Sir, I Want Some More

While some of our food was the wurst, and other meals nothing spaetzel, our final dinner was a Bavarian treat called maultaschen. Of course, we also found time for a few gummy bears. 

Heidelberg Monkey Business

For centuries a statue of a monkey stood near the bridge across the Necker River, holding a mirror.  It was supposed to remind people as they came into Heidelberg to remember where they came from, and that city and country folks are equal.  The original was lost in a war, but its replacement always attracts a crowd.  Legend says that if you touch the monkey's fingers you'll return to Heidelburg (must be true- this is my 5th visit!), if you touch the mirror you'll have wealth (must mean spiritual wealth...) and if you touch the little mice nearby you'll have many kids.  We stayed clear of the mice.
