Greater Prater

An additional note about Prater Park, where we went on our first night.  In 1780, the enlightened Emperor Josef II turned the royal hunting grounds over to the people as a park.  The vast area gradually evolved into an early amusement park- sort of a cross between Disney World and a traveling carnival.  The Ferris wheel is one of the oldest in the world, and the thrill rides are enticing and quickly able to extract Euros from naive American kids.  EF gave 10 Euros to our late arriving group to buy dinner there, but I suspect that much of that was invested in the Tilt-A-Whirl rather than wurst and schnitzel.
